OUR FAMILY VACATION 2009

August 20, 2009 was a very important date around our house. It was a big birthday for Shamey's Daddy, Jules' hubby, and my son-in-law. Jules wanted to have a BIG party at the house, but James requested that we would all go away for a family vacation instead.

August 21, we were up, packed, had breakfast, and on the road by 8:30 a.m.!

Our first destination was WILLIAMSBURG, VIRGINIA. Because I decided at the last minute to take them up on the invitation, I had to go to a different hotel than they were at. My hotel was very close by, and each morning James came to get me, and we all had breakfast together.Their hotel was very nice, especially the swimming pool and jacuzi. And of course, Shamey loved having a great big bed all to himself.

We had a wonderful meal the first night at a restaurant that we had been referred to by one of Jules' colleagues. It was called "Food For Thought". The atmosphere was college oriented, and the food was excellent. I, of course got a wonderful dessert recipe from the chef, actually delivered to me by the manager/owner of the restaurant. (will be sending it out to you...) A good time was had by all.

Our first full day there, we ventured out to Colonial Village, which was within walking distance from their hotel. Terry and I had been there many times, and so as I walked onto the grounds, my heart skipped a beat or two, in rememberance of all of our wonderful vacations there.

We took several tours and then we found a place near the widespread green manicured lawn, which was in front of the "Governor's Mansion". Every evening there is a Fife and Drum parade of colonial soldiers who march down the main street, and end up right where we were seated on the lawn. They had quite an exhabition and shot off several rifles and even two ancient cannons. Shamey plugged his ears at that one.

After the parade, the older children were invited to march with the soldiers out of the procession. I turned to Jules to say "I wish Shamey was a little older. He would have loved this!
She said, "what do you mean Mom?" Take a look out there! Who do you see at the end of the line? There was our precious boy, marching along, legs going, arms flying, and smiling all the time!! I could not believe my eyes! I don't know why though, because I always say he is 3 going on 12! Nothing stops this child! He tries everything he can! Always curious and asking questions!

That was one day I will never forget!!
